Our Heritage
The name “Ikecho” pays homage to the freshwater mussel believed to be the first used for pearl cultivation in Japan. With a vision to establish itself as the premier destination for Cultured Pearls and Solid Opals, founder Erica infused her company with a fresh, enthusiastic spirit, challenging traditional perceptions of pearls. Pioneering the importation of natural pink pearls to Australia, Ikecho revolutionised the market, offering the elegance of freshwater pearls without the hefty price tag. The Edison Collection, renowned for its
resemblance to South Sea pearls, remains a bestseller, captivating customers
with its allure.
In a bold move in late 2017, Ikecho expanded its offerings to include Solid Opals, sourcing Solid Black and Boulder Opals from Erica’s father’s mines in Lightning Ridge (NSW) and Winton (QLD). Combining the mesmerising beauty of Solid Australian Opals with Australian South Sea Pearls, Ikecho unveiled stunning designs, each piece as unique as the wearer.
The introduction of the Bambini Collection in late 2019 marked Ikecho’s foray into children’s jewellery, inspired by Erica’s eldest daughter, Charlize. Featuring stud earrings, bracelets, and strands in sterling silver, the collection captures the joy and innocence of childhood, delighting young ones with the timeless allure of pearls.
Today, Ikecho continues to honour this heritage by offering the finest pearls and opals sourced directly from nature.

Erica Miller, the founder, owner, and driving force behind Ikecho Australia, draws inspiration from her family, friends, and the world of jewellery. Her journey began with early exposure to opal mining in Lightning Ridge, supported by her father Erik, a prominent opal exporter.
With a strong foundation in the industry, Erica launched Ikecho in 1999 at just 19 years old, driven by her love for pearls, her birthstone. The name "Ikecho," derived from the first freshwater mussel used for pearl cultivation in Japan, reflects her vision to establish Ikecho as a leader in freshwater pearls in Australia.
